Program rules. Some programs have their own rules. Program rules apply in addition to these Terms. Where program rules give participants more protection or set more specific requirements, the program rules control.

Your Content

“Your content” means anything you submit to us or post through our website or programs, including stories, posts, comments, feedback, images, and survey responses.

You keep ownership. You own your content. By submitting it, you give Impartial a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and format it in the place and for the purpose you shared it, such as a community discussion board or stories page.

Other uses need your permission. We will not publish your content outside the setting where you shared it, use it in fundraising or promotional materials, or attribute it to you publicly without your separate permission for that use.

Withdrawing permission. You may ask us to remove your content or withdraw a permission you gave. We will stop future use and remove it from places we control. We may not be able to recall copies that were already distributed with your permission, such as a printed report.

Your responsibility. Your content must be yours to share and must not violate anyone’s rights or privacy. Do not name or identify other people without their permission.

Moderation. We may review, edit for formatting, decline, or remove content that conflicts with these Terms or a program’s rules. Program rules may give us broader discretion over what stays in a program’s community spaces.

Intellectual property

Impartial materials. Impartial owns or licenses the website’s text, design, logos, and other materials we create. You may view and share them for personal, non-commercial purposes with credit to Impartial. Other uses need our written permission.

Artwork. Artists keep all rights to their artwork. Impartial displays and sells artwork under its agreements with artists and does not own artists’ intellectual property. Buying a piece of artwork does not transfer the right to reproduce it.

Justice video games. Impartial’s games are provided under separate license or testing agreements. Those agreements govern access to and use of the games.

Artwork purchases and donations

Artwork is sold either under consignment agreements with artists or after Impartial has purchased it directly from the artist. Prices and shipping details are shown at the time of purchase. All artwork sales are final, and we do not accept returns. Payments are processed by a third-party payment processor under its own terms.

Payments to artists are arranged according to each artist’s circumstances and are documented in writing before any funds are disbursed.

Donations support Impartial’s mission and are non-refundable.

Outside resources and links

We may share links, resources, or opportunities from other organizations. Including them does not mean we endorse every position or service they offer. Their own terms and privacy policies apply.

Not legal advice

Information on our website or in our programs, including content generated with the help of AI, is for general education and community purposes. It is not legal advice and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional about your situation.

Use of AI

We use AI tools to support our work as described in our AI Policy. AI does not make consequential decisions about individuals.

Disclaimers

Our website and programs are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent permitted by law, Impartial makes no warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the website, programs, or materials, including that they will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Impartial and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, and interns are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of our website or programs. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Impartial and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, and interns from claims, losses, and costs, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your breach of these Terms or your content.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end your access to our website or programs if you violate these Terms or a program’s rules, or to protect others. You may stop using our services at any time.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as our programs change. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and notify participants directly of significant changes. Continuing to use our website or programs after changes take effect means you accept them.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina. You agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in North Carolina.

General

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, AI Policy, and any program rules, make up the full agreement between you and Impartial about your use of our website and programs. We may transfer our rights under these Terms, for example to a successor organization. You may not transfer yours without our consent.
