I chose to intern with Impartial, because I saw an organization that desired to hear its community in its pursuit of justice. I was looking for a way that I could meaningfully contribute to my community, so when I saw a volunteer opportunity for a criminal justice research writer, I reached out. I'm hoping that my work with Impartial will make an impact and will develop me as I learn more about the world of criminal justice reform. Since my desire is to work more directly in the criminal justice field one day, I am pursuing avenues to help reform a system I know is broken but has the potential for good.

Interning at Impartial has truly reshaped how I think about incarcerated individuals. Through this experience, I’ve come to realize the amount of hope and kindness that exists within prison systems. I’ve seen firsthand how Impartial’s work provides an opportunity for humanity to be seen, and I’m honored to be a small part of it. Thank you,

Jordan

Impartial’s mission stands apart, it’s unlike anything I’ve seen before. I’m proud to play a part in their powerful work and to help share their message. Through managing social media and crafting meaningful product descriptions, I help highlight the artists’ stories and bring greater awareness to the creativity and resilience behind every piece.

Hi, I've always enjoyed and benefited from working with Impartial. The sales of my art have made a big difference in my life, both financially and self-worth. I love the idea of my art being appreciated and seen by many different types of people. Keep up the good work, and thanks, again.

Diane and Impartial have enriched my life while in prison, not only by giving me an outlet to share my work, but by acknowledging that we should not be defined just by our mistakes, but also by our strength to recover from those. We are still people - the sons and daughters, parents and relatives, friends and neighbors who only need the chance to redeem ourselves in life. Thank you, Diane!

Volunteering for Impartial has been an amazing. I came with the mindset of helping build towards the mission of Impartial and ended up gaining new and valuable experience in Marketing that has been beneficial to me. It has been a win-win opportunity. Diane has been proactive with giving me the encouragement and space that I needed to explore the field to build my own experience. Thank you!

Hi there! My name is Alex, and I'm a sociology pre-law major at Duke University. Volunteering with Impartial helped me recognize the deeply personal aspect of incarceration in the United States. Here, I’m encouraged to understand criminal justice through a more personal and cultural lens, and Impartial has helped me create opportunities for others to do the same.
