I chose to intern with Impartial, because I saw an organization that desired to hear its community in its pursuit of justice. I was looking for a way that I could meaningfully contribute to my community, so when I saw a volunteer opportunity for a criminal justice research writer, I reached out. I'm hoping that my work with Impartial will make an impact and will develop me as I learn more about the world of criminal justice reform. Since my desire is to work more directly in the criminal justice field one day, I am pursuing avenues to help reform a system I know is broken but has the potential for good.

Diane and Impartial have enriched my life while in prison, not only by giving me an outlet to share my work, but by acknowledging that we should not be defined just by our mistakes, but also by our strength to recover from those. We are still people - the sons and daughters, parents and relatives, friends and neighbors who only need the chance to redeem ourselves in life. Thank you, Diane!
