When most people think about 'crime prevention', they focus on security -- hardening of targets, avoiding risk, reducing the opportunities to commit crimes, and so on -- the traditional and instinctive means to protect against harm.
While security is important, more and more evidence points to 'nudging' behavioral changes, making doing the right thing more desirable, reducing the incentives to commit crime, and increasing community engagement as better and more effective starting points.
We explore both creative new methods of crime prevention, as well as what's working and what isn't both by the numbers and by anecdotal evidence.
