Criminal justice refers to a system of laws, processes, courts and related institutions, and specific policies that direct how justice is carried out and delivered on behalf of society. In a narrow sense, most people consider three main components to be "the criminal justice system":

  • Law enforcement agencies (mostly the police)
  • Courts and accompanying prosecution and defence lawyers
  • Agents in charge of detention, punishment and supervision of offenders, such as prisons and probation offices.

Our view is more broad, encompassing every aspect of administering justice before, during, and after the commission of a crime including prevention, government, police training, bail, systemic bias, sentencing, rehabilitation, inmate reentry to society, education, the role of money, the legal code, and literally anything that impacts victims, criminals or the accused.

These articles look at the core values of criminal justice, offering perspective and analysis, commentary on current events, as well as identifying problems, issues and creative solutions.
